The bill would freeze current state provider taxes, utilized to help fund Medicaid programs, at the levels in effect upon the bill's enactment. It would also prohibit states from adjusting existing or implementing new provider taxes thereafter. About 1 in 31 (3.2%) children were identified with autism spectrum disorder among a 2022 sample of 8-year-olds from 16 US communities in CDC's ADDM Network1. This measure is anticipated to affect states' overall Medicaid budgets. As demand for services increases, adequate funding is critical to ensure children are able to access medically necessary care.
The progression of H.R. 1 will be closely monitored as it moves to the Senate, where further negotiations and amendments are anticipated.
